2017 MRSL Season Registration

Updated Monday February 6, 2017 by MRSL Pres.

Welcome to the 2017 MRSL Season!

The 2017 season the league will be organized into 5 or 6 divisions split across Sunday and Monday nights and teams will be placed into the appropriate divisions based on the following criteria:

  • The board will use reasonable efforts to ensure divisions comprised of 8 teams based on the following:
    • Level of play as determined by the previous year's record and standings – only teams winning their division or finishing in 8th place in 2016 will be automatically promoted or relegated, respectively.
    • Team's own submitted division request, and notes as to why, when registering
    • (If brand new team) Level of play as submitted by the team when registering and, if possible, direct observation by a member of the MRSL Board
    • Fill the top division with 8 teams first, then the 2nd division, and so on until all registered teams are placed

There will also be a Masters Division option for teams comprised solely of players turning 35 at any point during the 2017 calendar year*. This division, or divisions depending on number of teams registering, will operate in the same manner and according to the same bylaws as every other division of the MRSL. Playoffs and Promotion/Relegation between divisions will be offered if enough teams sign up.

*If we do not have a sufficient number of teams registering for the Masters Division we will put those teams into the appropriate divisions based on where they finished last season.

There will be a few changes to note for 2017. First, the quorum at the Fall 2016 meeting approved modifying the promotion and relegation rules for 2017 – the teams finishing 1st and 2nd will be automatically promoted to the next highest division in 2018, and the teams finishing 7th and 8th will be automatically relegated to the next lowest division for the 2018 season.

Second, all of the fees associated with playing in the league will remain in place except for renting an MRSL Controlled Field and referee fees. If you opt to rent a field through the MRSL the price will be increased slightly from years past – full details will be provided in the weeks to come. The referee fees will be increased by $15 per team per game. The agreements that we make with our referee assignors are in place for 3 years, however, the fees that were paid to the referees last season were the same fees that had been in place for 5 years – meaning this increase was long overdue. This increase keeps us on par with other leagues (adult, youth, and high school) to ensure that we receive the best referees available.

Here's a list of upcoming important dates:

  • Returning Team Registration is NOW Open. This early registration window will close on February 18th as will the Returning Team early registration discount.
